The Open Retainer

One Director-level retained search. 25% of first-year base salary. 10% to begin, the remaining 90% only when your hire starts. Backed by Williams365, my twelve-month placement guarantee.

Published price
25%, printed on this page. No request a quote, no negotiation, no tiers.
Paid on success
Ten percent to start. Ninety percent only when your hire is in the seat.
Guaranteed a year
If the placement does not last twelve months, I run the search again free.
Pricing, in the open

25% of first-year base salary. That is the whole number.

Every retained search I run is priced at twenty-five percent of the placed candidate's first-year base salary. Most retained firms charge 28 to 33 percent and will not print it. I charge 25 and put it on a public page.

You see the number before we start, and it does not move. The price is not a discount I hope to recover later. It is what my operating model makes possible: one practitioner, no junior bench, no office to fund, paid the balance only when your hire actually starts.

A $200,000 base means a $50,000 (25%) fee. $5,000 (10%) down payment, $45,000 (90%) due on candidate start Backed by Williams365, my twelve-month placement guarantee.
How it compares

15% looks cheaper.
Until day 91.

Contingency search looks cheaper at 15 to 20 percent, with nothing to pay up front. But the contingency guarantee runs about ninety days. If the hire leaves on day ninety-one, you pay that fee again, and again on the next one. With Williams365 the re-search is free for a full twelve months. You pay once.

What the fee covers

One price. The whole search.

Twenty-five percent of first-year base salary covers everything the search needs, run end to end by me. You cover only genuine third-party costs, passed through at cost, the same as any retained engagement.

A full retained search, run from briefing to start date by me, one point of contact throughout
A map of the realistic talent pool for your role, so you see the market, not just a shortlist
Direct headhunting of passive candidates across a network built only in food manufacturing
A shortlist worth interviewing, typically inside four weeks, placement in eight to twelve
Williams365, written into the engagement letter: if they leave within twelve months, I re-run the search free
Offer management, onboarding support, and quarterly check-ins through the first year
The cost of the alternative

Put the price next to a wrong hire

The scenario
A Director-level hire fails at month nine. The standard 90-day guarantee expired six months earlier. You pay a second full fee and lose months of momentum.
The expensive decision is not the fee. It is the hire that does not work. My fee removes the second-search cost from that equation, and ninety percent of it is payable only once the right person is in the seat.
Lost productivity
Six to ten months of underperformance. Projects delayed, the function run under-led, team morale affected.
$50k to $100k
A second agency fee
With most firms, a full retained fee paid again, with no guarantee the outcome is different.
$20k to $75k
Internal HR resource
HR time, interview panels, onboarding, referencing, all repeated from scratch.
$8k to $15k
Business disruption
Customer relationships strained, initiatives stalled, team confidence undermined.

I take three searches at a time

One set of hands on every search is the reason Williams365 works and the reason the search is fast. It also means I cannot run an unlimited book. I hold a maximum of three retained mandates at any one time. When those three are full, new mandates wait for an opening.

If you have a Director-level or above hire on the horizon, the time to talk is before the search you need is the one in the queue.

How the money works

The payment schedule, in full

Three steps. No hidden stages, no surprise invoices. The deposit begins the search and reserves one of three slots; the balance follows your hire onto the payroll.

Step 01
10% deposit on signing
Payable when you sign the engagement letter. This begins the search and reserves one of my three slots. Non-refundable, because it is a genuine commitment on both sides.
Step 02
90% on the start date
The balance is due when your hire starts their first day. Not on shortlist, not on offer. I am paid in full only once the placement actually happens.
If needed
Williams365 re-run, free
If the placement does not last twelve months, I run the search again at no professional fee. You cover only genuine third-party costs, the same as any retained search.
